What Happens

Criston Cole and Gwayne Hightower's guerrilla campaign against Rhaenyra's approaching army goes fully live... Cole murders a Riverlands lord and torches the Tully camp under cover of night. The Blacks retaliate with caltrops for Cole's horses and burn the last river crossing behind them, trapping Cole's remaining force, now outnumbered roughly 200 to 1. Gwayne offers Cole a place in House Hightower's service. Cole refuses. He'd rather die a free man, "clear-eyed, unbent, glorious in battle," than serve anyone, Green or Black, ever again.

At Harrenhal, Aemond Targaryen finally wakes up to a world that's changed completely: Rhaenyra's on the throne, his dragon Vhagar is missing, and there's a bounty on his head. He fights off two waves of bounty hunters despite still healing, and Alys Rivers (the witch who's been guarding him) gives him something nobody else in his life has: unconditional comfort, reading a lot more like a mother than a lover, for now.

At Rook's Rest, Aegon II's road trip with Larys Strong hits a breaking point. Larys finally tells Aegon the truth to his face: "You were a terrible king. But worse than that, you are a terrible man." It visibly lands. Then Tyland Lannister, presumed dead since the Battle of the Gullet in the season premiere, turns up alive. When a local tough discovers Aegon's hidden crown, Aegon calmly murders him: "You may call me Your Grace."

In King's Landing, Rhaenyra and Daemon drift further apart (he wants to run down whoever's been killing her City Watch guards, she's fixated on finding Vhagar and praying at the sept instead). Alicent tries to get a pregnant Helaena to take moon tea; Helaena flatly refuses. Alicent and Helaena try to sneak out of the Red Keep through a hidden tunnel and end up trapped in the dark when their torch goes out. The episode closes on its gut-punch: Daemon finally tracks down the missing Gold Cloaks and finds the entire City Watch leadership murdered and staged around a table, "A FEAST FOR TRAITORS" written on the wall in blood (Ormund's doing, confirmed by a coin bearing Prince Daeron's face).

Criston Cole's Death Wish

Every major review this week singled out Cole's "realm's greatest warrior" monologue as some of the best acting of the season. We push back on that a little. We get into Cole's actual "resume" (a joust win, a sucker punch, an old man's skull smashed from behind) and ask whether the show's asking us to buy a genuinely earned tragic ending, or just really wants us to feel something because Fabien Frankel sells it well.

Aegon and Larys Are Somehow Our Favorite Part of the Season Now

We said at the start of the season we weren't interested in this pairing. We were wrong. Larys finally dressing Aegon down (and Tyland Lannister turning up alive right after) makes for the best material in the episode, and we get into why watching Aegon get humbled keeps working better than it has any right to.

Alys Rivers Becomes a Full Batman Villain

Aemond wakes up with a new "mommy," fights off an entire raiding party while still healing, and we spend a solid stretch working out whether Alys Rivers is doing real magic or just excellent parlor tricks... landing somewhere around "she's Batman, dude."

A Feast for Traitors

Daemon finally catches up to whoever's been killing the Gold Cloaks, and it's Ormund, orchestrating a full assassination campaign in a city he's never set foot in. We talk through how implausible that logistics chain actually is, and where the episode's real thesis is hiding: everyone in this hour gets told the truth about themselves except Rhaenyra.

The Fool's Ledger

Full predictions check-in: the Corlys Turncoat Theory and the Rhaena/Jace theory both went quiet this episode (neither character appeared), Sunfyre's odds just ticked toward "alive" thanks to a dragon scale Aegon's carrying, Daemon's forced return to Harrenhal is still overdue, and we log two new ones: The Baela/Addam Ship (heh.), and Alicent potentially driving Helaena to an unfortunate end in an effort to "save" her.
