Ulf-Fredo

Ulf-Fredo

What Happens

The Battle of Tumbleton finally goes down, and it's a mess for everybody. Ulf the White, supposedly loyal to Ormund Hightower, gets caught passed out drunk in an outhouse right as the fighting starts. Once he's found, he doesn't turn cleanly to either side. He burns Hightower's forces and Rhaenyra's alike on Silverwing. Roddy the Ruin "kills" Ormund with a blade in the booty, and Ulf's dragon torches them both a second later. Daemon loses his one-on-one duel with Jon Roxton and has to be rescued by Corlys after getting knocked out. Hugh Hammer arrives on Vermithor searching for his wife, only to find her dead in the chaos. How she actually died is never resolved on screen. Daeron goes missing. Gwayne survives, beaten up. By the end, nobody really holds Tumbleton.

At Harrenhal, Aegon shows up alive. He finds a recovering Aemond, who's been nursed back to health by Alys Rivers, the ageless, ancient witch revealed this episode to be the widow of Harren "the Black" Hoare, the king Aegon the Conqueror burned alive in that same castle centuries earlier.

Back in King's Landing, Rhaenyra spirals after learning Aegon survived. She force-feeds Helaena, cuts Mysaria loose, kills the High Septon, and steps outside to deliver a full "prince that was promised" prophecy speech to the smallfolk in High Valyrian. It lands to total, awkward silence. Helaena, alone and grieving, throws herself out a window. Alicent, making her way back from Harrenhal, is swarmed by butterflies: an eerie premonition that something's gone wrong.

Our Takes

Dracarys or Dohaeris

Split verdict. The battle itself gets a full Dohaeris from both hosts. It's well done, one of the best action sequences the show's put together. Everything outside the battle is a lot closer to Dracarys.

A Proper Northern Fucking

The whole Tumbleton plotline plays like a comedy of errors once you follow it beat by beat. Ulf boasts in a tavern about killing Daemon, then immediately gets found blackout drunk on the toilet. Ormund vomits from Ulf's smell. Then Roddy stabs Ormund from behind, and Ulf burns everyone anyway, regardless of side. Both hosts land on Ormund's death as the best moment of the episode. Ulf gets voted "even dumber than we thought," which is saying something given how low the bar already was.

Guess Who's Actually a Hundred Years Old

Not much time is spent at Harrenhal this week, but what's there raises real questions about whether Vhagar's continued absence traces back to Alys Rivers doing something to keep her away. Tim wanted more screen time for the actual Aegon/Aemond confrontation. It's a scene that gets set up and then skipped past entirely, with Aemond's whole redemption arc happening off-screen while he's unconscious.

The Worst Week in Westeros

Rhaenyra loses basically everyone this episode. Addam, Baela, Rhaena, Mysaria. Both hosts walk through just how badly she's alienated her entire family in a single hour. That segues into the season's final "cunt count" tally: 4 for this episode, 14 for the season, with Ormund and Roddy both putting up big individual numbers.

Next Episode

There isn't one, not for a while. This was the Season 3 finale, and Season 4 isn't expected until 2028. We're in the off-season for the rest of 2026. Watchers on the Couch is planning to cover The Last of Us Season 3 next, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 potentially following in early 2027.
